Custard Apricot Tart Recipe

custard apricot tart

If you are, as I am, crazy about all stone fruit, my custard apricot tart is for you!

My mother adores apricots, and spread the love really thick. There is nothing she didn’t do with apricots: Sorbets, tarts, preserves.

I think you can tell: I’m one of those stone fruit nuts. Read my link on the Wonderful World of Plums, and you’ll understand just how crazy. I initially developed this apricot tart recipe with apricots in mind (duh!) but not finding them as ripe and fragrant as I wanted them to be, I picked their cousins, nectarines, which happened to look luscious. Peaches and plums will work very well too.

Making the crust will take a minute, so no reason to settle for pre-made: It won’t hold a candle!

Almond Cookie Recipe – Moroccan

Adapted from Levana Cooks, using Vanilla Bean Levana Nourishments

almond cookie

The Almond Cookie is a  great Moroccan favorite, called ghriba.

Traditionally we make them round and top them with a little cinnamon.
I am including the Traditional Basic Ghriba recipe here as well, so this Moroccan Almond Cookies variation, although it takes some poetic license, is a welcome change of pace, in terms of both shape and ingredients. These melt-in-your-mouth Almond cookies are totally suitable for gluten-free and are vegan without even trying.

Lemon Cake Recipe

lemon cake

Non-Lemon-Lovers need not apply!

This lemon cake is perfect for brunch but also for dessert, with fruit or sorbet. The baked lemon cake gets soaked all over with a luscious lemon syrup. You are in for a treat!

Yummy lemon cake recipe!

This is a decidedly dairy cake. Sorry, guys! Don’t substitute margarine or oil for the butter; you will notice the difference. Yogurt: Ditto. Buttermilk will work as well. A friend of mine took a large chunk of this cake on a plane trip to Chicago and shared it with the stewardesses. One of them e-mailed me that she must have more and asked if she could have the recipe. I am used to my recipes getting a lot of mileage on the ground, but this was the first time at 30,000 feet!

Apple Strudel Recipe

Adapted from Levana Cooks, using Levana Nourishments Vanilla Bean

apple strudel

Apple Strudel Recipe is a great Eastern European Dessert Favorite.

Store-bought Fillo dough is quite an acceptable substitute for the labor-intensive homemade Fillo sheets, and makes Strudel a snap to make. Strudel is quite versatile, and you make any number of exciting strudel variations, both savory and sweet. I’ll just start with the great Strudel dessert favorite.

I have included several Great Tips on Working with Fillo; when you get the hang of it, you will actually have fun using it and enjoy its versatility and flaky melt-in-your-mouth texture. Granny Smith is my favorite kind of apple for baking, but McIntosh will do just as well. Scroll down for strudel filling variations.

Use fresh bread crumbs, made by grinding a slice or two of unflavored bread or challah in the food processor.
